I think it worked....

Night 1 of sharing a room went very well- as I mentioned, they had a little difficulty GOING to sleep, but other than Baz's 57 84970987 bajillion wakeups, it was fine otherwise. Anya wasn't bothered in the least- yay!!!! Once they're completely used to sharing, I'll probably let him cry a bit when he wakes up so he learns to settle himself down again, but for now I'm going to suck it up so I don't have to deal with 2 crying kids.

Tonight was a repeat of last night- Baz was laughing and giggling and talking to himself and Anya and she kept asking/telling him to go to sleep, but after a few trips in to settle them down, they were both quietly sleeping well before 8- yippee!!!!!

I'm definitely feeling the onset of the third tri, which starts tomorrow. I'm sure sleep deprivation is playing a large part, but boy howdy am I tired! I have my GTT on Wed- it was supposed to be tomorrow but due to some emergency, my OB's appts are cancelled for tomorrow and rescheduled for Wed. In a sense, this is VERY lucky for me because I have to be taken at the scheduled time since I have to drink the sugary swill an hour prior to the visit and have my blood drawn at the hour mark. For once, I won't have to wait at all and this one would have been a doozy!!!! Now I just hope all these M&M's don't skew my results!

Our graduate

Well, here's our Preschool graduate! They had a cute ceremony, during which Anya looked completely bored and/or annoyed. I'm not sure why, though- she insists that she wasn't scared or nervous and I know she loves all the songs (she's been singing them for weeks), so I'm not sure what was going on. Anyway, this week is her last one at preschool before summer break, then KINDERGARTEN. Holy cow- everyone is so right about how quickly they grow up!

And as for growing up, thanks for Fancy Nancy, all she talks about now is dressing fancy, wearing accessories, high heels and dresses, and makeup when she's grown up. She doesn't believe me that those things are completely uncomfortable, but I'm sure she'll learn soon enough!

Baz is fast on her heels as far as growing up, too (not with being fancy, though). He doesn't stop talking- ever....particualrly since he's really grasping full sentences and articulating what he's thinking. He also LOVES peeing on the potty. In fact, every time we're out somewhere he asks to pee on the potty. He has no interest in pooping on the potty, though, which would really make life easier. Or if he would stop using the diaper altogether. Oh well- I'm not complaining since it's MUCH easier to change a diaper than clean up messy or wet underwear!

Anya's accidents have just about ended- thank goodness! Turns out she had a UTI in addition to strep throat!!! I feel like mother of the year for not taking her in earlier, but who would think that a kid whose only symptom was frequent accidents was harboring both strep and a UTI? She also loves her abx, which makes life so much better.

Here goes nothing.....

We've been planning on moving Anya and Baz into a room together so the new baby can have the nursery and today was the day. Both kids thoroughly enjoyed rearranging the room- bringing in Baz's bed and daddy's arcade games, etc, but the going to sleep part was a bit more challenging. I knew it would be- Anya only wants to hear her music box and NO talking, and Baz likes to talk and play as he goes to sleep. As it turned out, they talked/complained, etc for a little while, but once I left the room and Baz cried for me for a few minutes, they both settled down and went to sleep easily. And before 8!!!! As long as he doesn't wake Anya up during the night (or vice versa), this could be a great thing.

Baz has been turning into quite the chatterer lately. He's moved into complete sentences... "I need ...." for example. Even though this obviously isn't our first experience watching language develop, it's still so amazing to watch him learn and communicate so well.

He's still in love with his Lightening shoes.....he does agree to take them off to go to bed and he's worn his Thomas shoes on occasion, but LMQ is definitely his fave.

Strep????

For the past 3-4 weeks, Anya has had some major setbacks in her potty training- she's always had little "drips" here and there, but rarely a full-on accident until close to a month ago. We've just been dealing with it since it seemed to be behavioral- preschool ending, kindergarten coming, new baby, etc. Finally, I took her in to the ped to rule out a UTI, but I didn't expect much since she had ZERO other symptoms. So we left the urine sample and during the exam, the doc noticed that her throat was red. It turns out that strep can also cause urinary frequency, so she did a rapid strep test and it did show a faint positive. After several TTC attempts and many "slight positive" HPT's, I've learned that positive is positive and sure enough the culture came in today and confirmed that test. I feel badly that she's been running around for several weeks with strep throat, but she never once complained of a sore throat (still hasn't), but I'm definitely hoping that that's the cause of her accidents and the abx will end it.

The other new thing for Anya is Fancy Nancy. George found this series of books and realized that it would be a huge hit with Anya. It's about a little girl who just LOVES dressing up "fancy". Anya has taken a strong likeing to this book and now only wants to dress fancy. This became a problem this morning when an accident ruined the (believe it or not) un-fancy outfit she had donned without a fight. Now she wanted a fancy top, pants, and shoes. Now she was reduced to woeful tears that she didn't have fancy pants. It was a bit of a change since these weren't angry/fighting tears but sad ones, but she still had to deal with it. As a result, she rode in the van to Nana's house in her underwear only, but she did make it through the day wearing "plain" jeans with her fancy top and shoes!

Tomorrow is her graduation and she's so excited. We went to the mall today to find her a dress and shoes and she's so thrilled to dress up tomorrow. I was amazed that we manged to make it through the mall (George was able to meet us there) without any meltdowns AND we accomplished our goals (maternity clothes for mommy, who has already outgrown the clothes she already has- ugh).

Me

I had a fabulous treat this weekend- I traveled to Phila to visit a small group of friends from college. The reunion was fun- a group of about 10 friends who I haven't seen in many years (several since graduation) and I also got to sit and just chat. No chasing kids, wiping mouths, cutting food, cleaning up spills, etc. I even treated myself to a hotel stay that night (no way I would have been able to drive home that night anyway) and it was bliss! A whole bed to myself (sans cat hair and kids) and I could sleep all night long. Of course, my internal clock started waking me up at 5:30 (thanks, Baz), but I hit snooze until 7:30 and casually got up, took a shower, ate breakfast, and headed home. Traffic on Sun morning was so light and I was home in 2.5 hours.

We even managed to enjoy a nice, though HOT, Sunday afternoon. As Baz slept, I straightened up the house, then we went out to a small carnival. Baz just about managed to get over his fear of bouncy houses and joined Anya in jumping around, and they played some fun games before heading home. Now if they only could have slept all night long- at least ONE of them, it would have been perfect, but I suppose I can't complain!

Baz

Baz is working on developing two major aspects of himself lately- vocabulary (yayyyy!) and escape (boooooo). It's great to hear him come up and say "I need drink" or something else similar, but in an almost complete phrase. He's also great at announcing EVERYTHING we pass as we drive and actively seek out trucks.

Today's newer development is that he's becoming more and more afraid of things. I suppose it's jstu to be different than his sister (who is afraid of NOTHING), but he was first afraid of the sprinklers, and then of going under a bridge. Huh? I'm hoping it's just part of the 2 year old learning thing, but it's going to be hard to manage such opposite ends of the spectrum!

We took him for his 1 year checkup at the ped cardiologist last week, but I really didn't get any info out of that visit.....after being cooped up in a tiny dungeon of an office for over 2.5 hours, he refused to sit still for an echo and ripped of the holter within minutes of it being placed on. Since the staff there couldn't even bother to warn me that it would be quite a wait so we could go run around outside or something, I'm not going back there, so we've got to change docs. He'll probably get the same recommendations, but maybe they'll be more considerate of the attention spans of children/babies and it will be less painful.

Catching up (again....)

Wow- I knew it was a while since I updated, but this is tooooo long. Granted, it's gotten harder and harder to muster the energy even to type a little bit in the evenings. Once the kids are down, I'm down and ready to crash soon. Anyway, enough excuses....what's new????

Anya is still bringing on the morning clothing battles, but this is a new week and I'm hoping for the best. She threw a WHOPPER of a tantrum last week about shoegear and 10 minutes into our ride to work/school, she began crying for me to turn back to get her sneakers. This is about 30-40 minutes into her tantrum, so I'm not about to give in now and I refuse- there's no reason why she can't wear the sandals I finally convinced her to wear. So she continues screaming....I drag a tear-covered, crazy-haired tantruming little girl into my office where she continues to scream fore another 30 minutes before she finally realizes that she's not going to get her way. She agrees to change her outfit to "match" the shoes she had on and that was it. ACK!

The kicker is that as we walked up to her classroom that morning, I saw a new note hanging over the door. It was a poem with the request to only put gym shoes on your kid for school! OMG- I almost died, but it was funny and it has helped with our most recent battles since there's no arguing with the teachers' policies!

Anya has also been increasing her vocabulary lately. In the "hot" tub today (hot is in quotes since it's a bazillion degrees out so I cooled it off to warm pool temps before we got in), she said "I'm so delighted" to see all of the worms crawling around next to the hot tub. She's come out with a good number of similar words or phrases that seems so funny coming from her 4 year old mouth.
