FWD:

It's a girl!!!!! (for sure)

I had my 35 week checkup today and that included an ultrasound. Besides confirming that the baby is head-down (ready for escape!!!) and everything still looks healthy, we found out that this kid is definitely all girl! I've gotten kinda nervous lately that we didn't get a REALLY good look before and I'd certainly be just as happy with a boy as a girl, I've gotten used to the idea of a girl, so it would take a little rearranging in my mind. Also, we've got girl name choices and nothing for a boy, so name-wise, it's good too. The tech estimated baby's weight at 6lbs, 5-7 ounces. Granted, these weights are often off by up to a pound give or take, but it gives us an idea of what we're looking at (which is a bigger babe than the first two assuming she stays put for at least 2 more weeks).

Anya is happily enjoying the amusement park with my parents and her cousins. The weather is perfect- sunny and warm, but not too hot- and the crowds are not bad at all. She's starting to ask when she's going to come home, so we've got that in the works, hopefully before she really gets homesick! She still has little to no interest in talking to George or I more than to say "Hi, I love you, bye!".

Baz has become quite the chatterbox lately. Of course, most of his full phrases include the word "fart", but he IS a boy. On the way to the aquarium on Sunday, we passed the water park so now each time we pass the mall, he INSISTS that it's the water park. He's also taken up singing and dancing- cutest thing ever! His favorite songs are ABC's, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Lavender's Blue (I love the dilly dilly part because he can't pronounce the l's so they sound like w's- awwwwww)

George had to have a little discussion with Baz the other day about terminology. Both kids know that when Grandma and Pap-Pap come to our house, we go out to dinner on a date. As a result, Anya often asks George to go on a "date" with her to the play kitchen where she makes him dinner. Baz has watched this and started asking daddy to go on a date with him. With a little intervention, George has now taught him that guys "hang out" together so now they (we) hang out near the play kitchen while Baz cooks!

Another belly shot

For those interested, here's my 34 week pic:
God help me if I go past my due date!!!!

4 days and counting......

Anya has been with Grandma and Pap-Pap for 4 days now and there's no sign of homesickness in sight! I'm not surprised in the least, but you never know what to expect with kids, so I'm happy that she's having fun. The first couple of days were a little challenging for the grands because both Anya and Isabella are developing their strong personalities as they're both learning to share, so there were many scuffles to break up. It sounds like there was lots of playing as well and they both miss each other now that they're apart, so all in all I think it was a good time.

I do know that Grandma and Pap-Pap are able to relax a little more now that they're only responsible for one child, who hopefully is behaving and cooperating. Mom and Dad most definitely are relaxing a little more than usual, though not completely since we still have to keep CLOSE tabs on our little monkey man! He's noticed a couple of times that Anya's not here, but other than asking to say hi to her on the phone, he's not really bothered by her absence. It's too bad that he went and broke his foot now because we'd like to do some activities or something special just for him, but just about everything we can think of can't be done while wearing a cast!

Baz-ism

Just had to put this one down before I forgot it. Today we were out shopping (trying to find shoes to fit over Baz's cast and getting earrings for Anya) and Baz made an announcement to George. "Daddy, I just made loud fart out my bum" OMG, soooo hard not to laugh about that one! Gotta love toddlers and their announcements! And glad that I wasn't the one carrying him at that moment!

Awesome pills

Lately Anya has been acting much more like a "big kid". She's very helpful with cleaning up hers (and even BAz's toys) and giving me and George a hand when we need. As I was praising her the other evening in the hopes that this behavior continues, she informed me that she's acting awesome because of her "awesome pills". OK- no complaints here....whatever it takes! She went on to tell me that she's taking them to help her be awesome for kindergarten. Of course, she still is a 4 year old and needs the occasional timeout, but they are definitely fewer than before the awesome pills!

The first and HOPEFULLY the last......

Broken bone, that is. Not surprisingly, Baz beat Anya to the punch in terms of serious injuries. He's been eagerly scaling the front of the changing table lately since it's flipped up into the shelf position since it's not needed at the moment for changing baby's diapers. Not only is it fun just to climb, but he can then jump into the crib (full of stuffed animals at the moment) or turn the light/fan off and on- who wouldn't jump at that opportunity?

Well, Friday afternoon both kids were playing in the nursery and I wasn't directly monitoring them since this has become a regular routine until I heard a thump and crying. Hard crying. I knew before I even got there that Baz was the injured party, but I had no idea how bad it would be. At first, it seemed pretty bad because Anya told me he landed on his head. I now was worried about head or neck issues and had visions of a trip to the ER with CT scans, etc involved. Thankfully, once I began examining him, his only concern was his foot. Wahoo!!!! Not that I was happy to have him injured, but if he had to hurt something, the foot is definitely the way to go.

Poor little muffin stopped crying pretty quickly, but absolutely refused to bear any weight on his foot at all. Once George came home, we decided that we'd all leave for work a little early in the morning and xray him in my office and treat it accordingly. I was really hoping that maybe he'd get up in the morning and run around like normal (kids heal so quickly and we didn't know if anything was broken or not), but that wasn't the case.

He still hobbled around like a hurt puppy holding his leg in the air and repeated "I can't walk momma". A couple of xrays later and we saw that he did in fact chip off a piece of bone. It could have been much worse, but we put on a short cast in the hopes that he'd become a little more mobile. He we quite a trooper and laughed and giggled through the xrays and the cast application and has only asked to have it off a couple of times....so far.

This morning, he's finally crawling around instead of crying for someone to pick him up. We're hoping that if we get him a shoe or sandal big enough to cover the cast he'll start walking a bit. He hasn't asked to go into the hot tub yet either- here's hoping he doesn't!

Pregnancy pics

Just for fun.....

Me this week at 32 weeks:

Me at 32 weeks with Sebastian:

On the way to have Baz at 38 weeks:

Hmmmmm- it looks to me like I have a 38 week belly already with 5 weeks left to get there!!! No wonder I'm so tired and my back hurts all the time!

Why?

OK, I get that some people just don't know what to say sometimes, but this one takes the cake. It came from a patient of mine who happens to be very Catholic- in the small talk we've made during the 15 minutes or so we're together every 2 months, I know where she goes to church, that she teaches catechism, her feelings on parents who don't teach their kids about the church, etc, etc. Anyway, she greeted me as most of my patients do nowadays as my belly enters the room about 5 seconds before the rest of me. "Oh, I see you're expecting- congratulations!". Nice enough...but the next thing out of her mouth was "Why?"

Whaaaaat? Are you KIDDING me? I thought that the people who ask if this was an accident were bold! At first I just bit my tongue (mostly because I couldn't come up with something sassy enough right at that moment). I then explained to her how wonderful the 2 that we have are and how I couldn't imagine life without one more. (I kept the part about how not fun this pregnancy has been to myself). When I told the story to George later in the day, he came up with the perfect retort for her. Why am I having another baby? Because I'm so sick of having abortions, I decided to hang onto this one. That would have shut her up for sure! I certainly wouldn't have been able to say it, but it would fit her question!

It truly amazes me what some people think is OK to say!
